Conversation Starters: Act Faithfully

Posted by Karah

_MG_1945THE BIBLE MEETS LIFE: The world is not always content to leave Christians alone. If they
can’t persuade us to join them in what they’re doing, they will try to keep us from practicing our
faith. Why would this matter to the world? Our actions shine the light of Christ and expose their
darkness. When Daniel faced a similar experience, he was not fazed. He continued to worship God
and pray, even if it meant opposition and death. When faced with opposition in our own lives, we
can continue to worship God and trust Him because He sovereign over every situation.

Concept: Act Faithfully

Preschool

Daniel 6

LIFE POINT: Daniel was a good man who did what God wanted him to do. King Darius planned to put Daniel in charge of all sthe land. The other leaders did not like this. The men went to the king and had him make a rule (law) that would not let anyone worship or pray to God. Daniel heard the rule but chose to worship and pray to God. The other leaders told the king about Daniel. The king knew that Daniel had to go into the lions’ den, but he hoped Daniel’s God would protect him. Daniel was put into the lions’ den. The next morning, Darius rushed to the den. He called out to Daniel. Daniel told the king that God had sent an angel to shut the lions’ mouths. He was not hurt. Darius was happy that Daniel was
safe! Darius wrote a rule for all people to obey God.

LIVE IT OUT: As you ride in the car with your child, sing songs of praise to God. Tell your child that we can show love to God and thank Him for His love by singing to Him.

Daniel 6

LIFE POINT: The king had put Daniel in charge of many people. Some of the people wanted to hurt Daniel. They said to the king, “You are a great king. Let no one pray to anyone but you for 30 days.”
When Daniel heard the law, he went home. He knelt at his window. He prayed. He prayed three times every day just like he always did. The men told the king. The king was sorry, but he sent
Daniel to the lions’ den. The king worried about Daniel all night. In the morning, he asked, “Daniel, has your God protected you?” “God sent an angel to shut the lions’ mouths. I am safe,” Daniel answered.

LIVE IT OUT: Help your child memorize Daniel 4:37. Comment that the verse tells us that God’s ways are always the best. Tell your child he can say this verse as a reminder that God is always with him.

Students

Daniel 6:6-10, 13-16, 19-22

THE POINT: God is greater than those who oppose you. Describe a time when doing the right thing cost you a lot. When have you experienced tension between your faith and culture? Discuss the following quote:

“Our need is not to prove God’s faithfulness but to demonstrate our own, by trusting Him
both to determine and to supply our needs according to His will.”1 —John MacArthur

LIVE IT OUT: Your student is encouraged to do one or both Live It Out activities. Here are some suggested ways to help your student:

If he or she plans to complete Walking in Obedience:
• Share with your student how you’ve benefited from a Scripture reading plan, and pass along tips that have helped you stay consistent in your time with the Lord.

If he or she plans to complete Called to Service:
• Help your student research volunteer opportunities.
• Discuss with your student the reason why we, as Christians, serve. Reiterate that God calls us to live a life of love to both God and others.
